Visiting the German Embassy in Juba, South Sudan

On March 13th Deputy Head of Mission & Head of Cooperation Simon Ruf received Vétérinaires Sans Frontières Germany (VSF Germany) Managing Director Christian Griebenow, Country Program Manager Daniel Nondi Olang, Desk Officer Programs Rickie North Klingler and Project Manager Susan Angwech at the German Embassy in Juba, South Sudan. Simon Ruf and the VSF Germany team discussed the humanitarian and development situation in South Sudan.

The VSF Germany team presented their fields of intervention and focus areas such as agriculture, livestock and One Health and described the current cooperation with the German Federal Foreign Office and the Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development to date. Daniel Nondi Olang underlined that VSF Germany has improved the life of millions of animals and thousands of humans since 1998 when it started working in the area of what is now South Sudan.

Simon Ruf was particularly interested in the ongoing current rural development programming and activities of VSF Germany relating to pastoralism and animal movements. Daniel Nondi explained that VSF Germany is securing the pastoralists’ movement patterns by providing vaccines against zoonoses and other animal diseases as well as by provide life-saving support through livestock treatment and access to water along these corridors through organized community dialogue.

Finally, Simon Ruf and the VSF Germany team emphasized the importance of interlinking conflict resolution, humanitarian assistance, transitional aid and development cooperation in South Sudan. Thanks for the very warm welcome at the German Embassy!
