When animals mean life.
Every year, our projects are able to reach well over one million people and over seven million animals. Most of them live in pastoral communities. With our projects, we enable these people to lead a self-determined life and to protect and promote their traditional way of life in unison with their animals and environment.
1 Region – 12 Challenges
Over the years, our commitment has grown beyond its initial focus on animal health. We pursue a holistic approach to development and humanitarian aid, and in response to the many challenges we face, we advocate for a wide range of issues that positively impact the lives of East Africa’s rural population.
This is where we help.
Our geographic location covers the region east of the East African Rift Valley: The Greater Horn of Africa. This region offers a great cultural heterogeneity due to its wide variety of ethnic groups. The coast, on the other hand, is representative of a homogeneous cultural tradition. It is mainly influenced by the Swahili society from East Arabia and India.
This is how we help. One Health.
We are convinced that healthy animals, healthy people and a healthy environment are essential for the future of us all. Therefore, the One Health Approach forms the basis of our project work. It guides us through every stage of our work so that we can plan and implement our projects successfully and sustainably.
Community Animal Health Workers (CAHWs)
CAHWs provide basic veterinary care in remote rural areas. Securing animal health, they actively contribute to securing human health by preventing people from contracting animal-borne diseases. They form an important supporting pillar of our work!
